Skiing: Downhill and Uphill

I’m a cross country skier. Strap some skinny skis on my feet and I’ll be happy for hours. Strap some downhill skis on my feet and I’ll look like an idiot for hours, but a happy idiot.

My family and I got to break out the XC skis for the first time this year a few days after Christmas. We went to our favorite spot in Eden that is absolutely gorgeous. I think cross country skiing is the ultimate workout, you get your legs working, your arms working, your heart pumping, you get to be in the out in the fresh air, and you’ll never have more fun.

I’ve cross country skied the last three years, and I’ve really been wanting to downhill. Really REALLY. Well it turns out Kevin is an AWESOME downhill skier and he got me all outfitted to go this year!

New Years Day Kevin took me up to Park City Resort to teach me to ski! We decided to go night skiing because it’s a little cheaper, there are less people out on the slopes, and it’s just super fun, so we got there when most people were leaving. Luckily there was still a little over an hour left of daylight and we stayed pretty warm even after the sun went down. Kevin has a season pass, but when he went up to buy me a pass for the day and was just about to go to the window to pay, a sweet lady with an accent gave him her pass, saying she was done for the day. Kevin thanked her and tried to pay her back but she kindly refused and walked away! I just want to say, here’s to you girl, may this new year be the best one yet! Kevin and I decided our stroke of luck had to be Karma coming back to us from our last Friday Date Night (More on our date, the fiasco that followed, and the good deeds we did later).

So anyway, I got a great night of skiing FREE!!!

Skiing has always been one of Kev’s passions. Ever since I met him I’ve loved hearing him talk about skiing or seeing the pictures and videos from his last skiing adventure. There’s just something about people sharing their passions that’s so beautiful. Doing and sharing what you love it what makes life worth while. One of my favorites quotes says, “Promote what you love, don’t bash what you hate.” Especially for me, that’s a great reminder, and helps me to be a happier person. Kevin’s love for skiing also made him a really great teacher, it made every aspect of skiing so fun and exciting and he was so patient and encouraging.

Anyway, I had a blast! I spent a lot of time sliding down the bigger run on my butt and I will forever feel slightly goofy on heavy downhill skis, but I can’t wait to go again with Kev!
